Should I tell him that I like him?

2021.12.04 16:27 inmyelement Should I tell him that I like him?

Hi, f(30s). So met a guy recently while traveling half way across the world. We connected instantly but aside from some nice conversations, nothing happened. He’s a great guy and I wish him the best.
Here’s the thing - I want to tell him that I like him. I don’t want anything in return but if he admits that he liked me too, which was blatantly obvious, it would be lovely to hear. I’ve been badly hurt before in a relationship and tend to steer clear of guys, so it’s rare for me to like someone. With this guy, it was just natural and mutual. Anyway, I’m home now and he’s like 6000 miles away and I don’t expect us to meet again. We are in touch via chat from time to time, but that’s it.
So, I’m looking for some feedback from guys - should I tell him I like him?
Problem is that if he responds in a dismissive way or puts up a front (which I feel he can do via chat sometimes… like playing it cool or something as he’s more genuine in person) and says something insensitive, it might push me back in my shell. I’m hoping this feeling I have will motivate me to find someone locally.

2021.12.04 16:27 juulsgolfbobatrivia “I’m looking for a Bosch dishwasher…”

“It needs to be white. And not flat white. And it has to be at least the 500 series. And I’ve been to every other retailer and checked everywhere online and it says they’re unavailable. Can you check and order one for me?”
“I’m sorry ma’am, Bosch’s have been widely unavailable for over a year, and the problems will continue until at least 2022. It looks like we don’t have a model available that will fit your requirements. Maybe we can look at Kitchenaid?”
“I don’t understand why you guys even sell it if you can’t order it. Like why do you even have it if you can’t sell it? I don’t get it.”
That’s because you’re stupid as fuck. You don’t understand how things work, and you don’t understand that Best Buy can’t do anything to help Bosch make more available dishwashers, nor any other retailer for that matter. It is never, ever the associates fault a product isn’t available. And you accomplish nothing taking your frustrations out to someone who has no control at all. FUCK. YOUR. OWN. FACE.

2021.12.04 16:27 icedout98 What would your HOF ballot look like if given a vote?

I have been paying attention to the HOF tracker on twitter by following NotMrTibbs and seeing the work that him and his crew have put together for about 4 years. This has given me the opportunity to look into the reasoning that many writers provide to the public for their HOF choices. Though, many ballots I do not agree with, as long as there are consistencies in the writers' choices then I have no problem. There are different types of voters such as small-hall, large-hall, character clause and steroid/anti-steroid just to name a few.
Then, there are voters that seem to contradict themselves more often than not with a ballot that includes an alleged domestic abuser and borderline at best candidate in Omar Vizquel and then completely exclude a superior player in Andruw Jones. Today, I came across a ballot from Anthony Andro that included Bonds, Clemens, Jones, Kent, Rolen, Schilling, Sheffield and Wagner. It's not the worst ballot I've seen, but I don't understand the logic in voting Sheffield over Manny. Both are suspected steroid users and even if you want to claim that Manny failed tests and Sheffield didn't (IMO splitting hairs), Sheffield actually came clean about his steroid use in 2002 and admittedly cheated the game in saying he would purposely botch plays after a trade and also would air dirty laundry about his teammates (A-Rod/Jeter). Manny also served suspensions for his steroid use, whereas Sheffield received no such penalty. Either way, Manny was the superior player IMO.
This is just one example of the countless ballots I've seen where baseball writers are given too much power and should have their privileges seriously reconsidered. I will say, for the most part the BBWAA has gotten HOF cases correct and the horrendous selections of Harold Baines and others are more a result of the Veteran's Committee and the favoritism that is exhibited yearly. With that being said, I would like to share who I would vote for and the reasoning for doing so, along with acknowledgement of arguments against these picks. I would love to hear some of your exclusions/inclusions, facts/history of players I might have overlooked or anything else you would like to add because I love discussing this kind of thing.
Full disclosure, I'm 23 and started watching baseball (that I can actually remember) in 2003, so I was able to witness the twilight of the steroid era, but just missed those magical home run races in '98 and '01. I have no issue with steroid users in the HOF for a multitude of reasons. Every generation has had their advantages and there are known steroid users already in the Hall. I don't think you should right a wrong by committing another wrong (electing Bonds because Piazza/Pudge are in), but I think in this case, electing any of these guys isn't a wrong anyway. I would vote for the 10 best players on the ballot and then when it came to borderline cases/close-calls for the last couple spots, I would then start to weigh more opinionated traits like steroid impact on their ability, character clause, ballpark factors, eye-test and 'HOF feel.' Here would be my choices in order:

  1. Barry Bonds - Everyone knows all the stats and records. Simply put, Bonds was a HOF player before he started juicing. Many speculate he started after the '98 HR chase where McGwire and Sosa received all the publicity, even though they were inferior players to Bonds for the years prior. I think that's a pretty fair assessment. Take Bonds' stats from '86-'98 and even ignore his insane years after that - 411 HR, 445 SB, .290/.411/.556 (164 OPS+), 3 MVP, 8 GG and a bWAR of 100. Dude was pretty much Mike Trout before the steroids. He definitely had an ego, was an asshole to reporters and the domestic abuse allegations could all deter voters from checking his name, but be consistent.
  2. Roger Clemens - Another HOF player before suspected steroid use started in '97 with Toronto. Had 3 CYA before then, and he is the only person to win at least 3 and not be in the HOF. Has character questionability and will boil down to you if you take character clause seriously. If that's a no, then Bonds, Jones, Ramirez, Vizquel and Schilling should be no's as well.
  3. Alex Rodriguez - Grew up my whole childhood having A-Rod as my favorite player and was pretty upset when he got busted. Still is my favorite player of all-time, but as a rational fan, I can understand why he was/is so hated. His case is a little trickier because if you want to take the approach of seeing if he was a HOFer before the steroids, that is tough to pinpoint. Claims he used during his Texas years where he put up career numbers and that makes sense. Then, he had the whole BALCO ordeal in 2013 and missed the entire 2014 with the longest suspension in MLB history. He is one of only a handful of players to admit to steroid use. Nobody really knows if he was using his whole career, but if you're voting for steroid guys, he's probably the second-best position player after Bonds who used. He is the best shortstop since Honus Wagner and has an incredible peak and the longevity that traditional and sabermetric voters love.
  4. Manny Ramirez - Perhaps the best right-handed hitter of his generation. IIRC he was suspended on two occasions for his steroid use. I haven't seen many people agree with this, but I don't think suspension is an automatic disqualifier, however, actually the opposite. Yes, he was stupid to use again after being caught, but he WAS penalized. Something a lot of guys on this ballot cannot say. Not to compare the two, but that's why many people hate the Astros. Not only did they get an 'unfair advantage,' but they were never disciplined for it. That being said, because I would vote for the 10 best players on the ballot, Manny makes it pretty easily.
  5. Curt Schilling - Always found him to be slightly better than Mike Mussina career-wise, but noticeably better peak-for-peak. He also has the claim to be the best post-season pitcher of the last 30 years at the very least. He may not be doing himself any favors with the writers and is definitely a POS, but you can't deny his 3,100 strikeouts if strictly voting for on-field accomplishments.
  6. Sammy Sosa - Another steroid user, along with McGwire saved baseball in historic '98 season. Naysayers will claim steroids made him a HOFer and also was a cheater two times over in that corked bat incident, which is fair, but he did have two 30/30 seasons before most people speculate his juicing started. 600 HR is tough to ignore and you can't tell the story baseball without mentioning his accomplishments. To reiterate, I really do believe he and McGwire should be in for what they did for baseball. Selig is in, and without them I truly don't know if baseball would have been able to win over the fans again.
  7. David Ortiz - Along the same lines as Sosa, you could argue that Ortiz was not a HOF caliber player prior to his presumed juicing. With that being said, he has probably the most clutch moments in playoff history since Reggie and has the offensive statistics to warrant induction. An argument against Ortiz could be made that being a suspected steroid user and a career DH are too much for voters to bypass.
  8. Billy Wagner - Second best closer to Mo all-time. Better than Hoffman, Fingers, Eckersley and Lee Smith. He may not have the innings those guys do, but his rate stats are insane in an era where was facing the heart of the order in critical spots. Besides longevity/volume, I really don't know an argument against his inclusion.
Scott Rolen/Gary Sheffield/Andruw Jones/Todd Helton - For a 10 player ballot and 2 spots left between these 4 players, this is where the steroid discussion, character clause, ballpark factors, eye-test and 'HOF feel' should actually matter. Now, I don't think any 4 of these guys were top generational talents or the defining players of their era, but they were also better than Hall of Very Good. This will be just my opinion but I think you could go many ways with this. You could stop after 8 players. You could also make an argument for the top 2 to finish off a 10 player ballot, or vote strategically to garner attention to a guy like AJ or Rolen who actually have a shot to get in the next 2-3 years.
My final 2 votes would go to Gary Sheffield and Andruw Jones with Todd Helton narrowly missing the last spot followed by Scott Rolen.
Gary Sheffield was the most feared hitter of this group and also probably the worst corner outfielder of his generation. His offensive numbers are extremely tough to overlook, and he is the only player out of this group that most closely aligns with other HOF hitters according to bbref. For me, he has the counting stats and the peak (three top-3 MVP finishes) to overlook his terrible defense, clubhouse drama and steroid accusations.
Andruw Jones would've been more of a lock for the HOF had he retired after his age 30 season. Instead, many believe that he played himself out of the HOF and in his later years, he wasn't referred to as a future HOFer from my memory. He did have 10 GGs to go along with 434 homers, but his enshrinement to the HOF will mostly be based on newer defensive metrics that weren't as closely monitored during his playing days. He gets the nod over Helton and Rolen because he was THE BEST at a certain area of the game. He was the best defensive CF of all-time by a ton of metrics and was undoubtedly the best of his era.
Todd Helton just missed it for me when you consider he should have won the 2000 NL MVP, was a great defensive 1B and has both very good counting stats and great rate stats (.316/.414/.539). I think he is a HOFer, but just misses being one of the 10 best choices this year. He was also not able to claim being the best 1B of his era or league (offensive or defensive) as Thome, Bagwell, Pujols and Miggy were all better.
Scott Rolen was a very good 3B for a long time, but was never great for even a 2-3 year period. His 2004 season was his best with a top-4 MVP finish, but other than that, his career was just very good. Being that third base is extremely underrepresented in the Hall, I do believe he deserves enshrinement eventually. I think he is very similar to Ron Santo, but should get in sooner because you're a HOFer or you're not. The waiting game is stupid.
Thanks for reading! Let me know what you guys think, especially the bottom portion of the list.

2021.12.04 16:27 cam2449 Computer Novice Searching For A User Friendly Laptop For Gaming and Other Work Functions

$500-$750 USD
If from a trusted reseller, yes.
Performance and battery life are pretty important because I am looking to do some gaming, and other work related tasks. I am a writer and have a few music projects I do on the side so I am looking for something that can handle multiple tabs being open without losing performance.
Not super important. I do envision myself going to a few local libraries and coffee shops if I ever need to get out of the house, so I don't want to have to lug around something crazy big.
N/A
I do plan on doing some gaming and writing. I would prefer to use Windows, and Final Draft.
I play State of Decay 2, but I would also like to be able to play just about any type of game as I see fit. I need something that can handle high frame rates. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to settings.
I'm not super picky on features, I would like a light up keyboard though, I do a lot of stuff at night and in dark areas, so having a light up keyboard is a must have.
I know I said my recommended budget was $500-$750, but I am open to more or less. I have been strictly a console gamer for my entire life and this would be my first computer that would be used for different purposes. I don't really have good credit and therefore can't really qualify for anything with monthly payments, so anything super expensive (anything over $1000) is a little too much for me. But like I said I am super new to the world of computers and specifically the world of computer gaming. So any other advice, tips, guidelines, sources for more information would also be greatly appreciated and welcomed!

2021.12.04 16:27 XxstitchedxX How do I get my coworker a raise?

I work in a kitchen and have been at my job for a few months. Due to several employees/coworkers having left since I started, the restaurant I work at is in need of someone to fulfill a management position.
A couple days ago my boss/the restaurant owner asked me if I were interested in being a manager, and I happily accepted.
I have a coworker Mike who is the last of my coworkers left who has been there for 4+ years (all the other employees who work FOH that have been there as long as him are the ones who left in the past few months). He is a supervisor, and it's safe to say we're friends/enjoy and appreciate eachother as coworkers.
I recently found out he only makes $1/hr more than me (this is at my current non-management position). I found this to be surprising since he's very good at what he does and has been at the job for significantly longer than I have been.
I really like and appreciate Mike, and if the restaurant wants to keep him I think he should get paid more. It also would ensure him staying working at the restaurant. This is partly for selfish reasons- I know that having Mike around will help me immensely in being able to fulfill my upcoming role/position of being a manager: i.e. having Mike around to ask for advice, help guide me in leading others at work (the owneour boss works way less shifts on the floor at the restaurant than other employees), and being able to answer other questions of mine since I've only been working there since September.
What's the best way to say to my boss/the restaurant owner that Mike should get a raise? (And no, Mike didn't ask me to ask this for him- I just really respect the guy and think he could be shown more appreciation that's reflected in his paycheck)
I appreciate any input any of you would have...!

As the title says I think I shorted/fried my ECM in my 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 with 4.7L engine. Long story short, I was temporarily setting up an amp and subwoofer just to check out the performance of the sub. I finished the set up and connected the negative terminal back on the battery when the power cord running from the battery to the amp fell out of the amp and hit the body of the vehicle, causing a spark. The vehicle won’t turn over and no electrical systems have power. I can’t even pull my key back out if the ignition. My battery is good, reading at 12.7 amps. I wanted to confirm my suspicion/diagnosis and was wondering if anyone has any advice on best approaches to buying a new ECM. I’ve done a variety of work on vehicles but have never replaced an ECM. Thanks in advance for any advice.
